Today we had a workshop with Animator, Colin Giles. He's known for being Animation lead on Thomas and Friends (2010-2011), Sausage Party (2016) and Dan Vs. (2011-2013) He talked about his career and experience in the industry and how he became Head of Animation at Vancouver Film School.
He showed us a short film one of his students did about a boy who asks a girl out and after getting excited about it, finds out she thought it was a group hang and asks to bring her boyfriend. After watching, he mentioned that the student who created it also animated it, wrote the script and wrote the music for the film which I found very exciting because my goal for my films is to put as much of my own work in as possible.
My goal in this industry is to have developed in enough fields that no matter what happens with one skill I always have another one I can use to make money and keep myself busy. I'd love to put my own music in my films or even sing for someone else's, I also am working on my editing and drawing skills so I could get a post-production or storyboarding job with my qualifications.
These workshops always inspire me to keep going in this field because they always say that now is the best time to do it because of the expanding media platforms we have in this generation.
